Hey folks, welcome to the new whine/general topic thread. Feel free to use this thread to discuss anything that is on your mind. Caregiving- related stuff, life after a loved one's death, your own emotional wellbeing. Whatever..........anything on your mind.
I'm so sorry for the loss of your 2 Uncle's.
The skylight frame sounds neat and I appreciate you mentioning it.
I'll ask my Aunt and see what she thinks about it,if it would make my Uncle sad.
Spending time with him is the best gift, your'e right.
I appreciate your kind suggestions~
Take care and have a good night~
Flowers are right up his alley but he doesn't need any because my Aunt has them planted all over .
My Uncle has a beautiful rose garden that my Aunt is taking care of now too,but flowers were a great idea.
I appreciate all your suggestions~Thanks for the hugs & caring like you do~
A book stand or a lap tray are great ideas and so is the ereader but he's got a Kindle already and at this point I don't think he's using it much.
He just doesn't have any energy because he's having so much trouble breathing and in so much pain.
My Uncle,has Pulmanary Fibrosis but
Thanks for your suggestions,I really appreciate it~
Thinking of you and your family. I hope he can be kept free of pain and discomfort.
Most of all just you being there and caring is probably what he needs.
It was in bad taste to mention assisted suicide in a joking way. I apologize.
Yes, I've been anxious and depressed but not to that degree.
Lu, I'm sorry about your uncle. Prayers for both of you.
I appreciate all your thoughts and ideas.
A cup with 2 handles is a great idea .... I don't know how well it would go over with him but I may do it anyway.
Last Sunday,he had a coffee mug in front of him filled with water but the mug was full because it's too heavy.(I'm sure).
I was trying to put a photograph album together for him but then my Aunt said that when he looks at old pictures ,it makes him sad but
I have given him little framed pictures thru the years though and he mustv'e liked them because he displayed them on his desk.
All your ideas were very thoughtful.
Thanks alot~
That's CrAzY to charge $15 bucks for a chocolate eclair.....wow!
Your'e right, the most important thing is time spent with him.
He can't have any salt anymore so that's made it harder taking him foods but last Sunday,I took him a big tomato and he seemed pleased.
I took him some fresh peas too, which he used to love, but they didn't go over very good.
I'd love to take him something sweet, but being a retired dentist,he's never been a sugar eater.
That was a really good idea though and I appreciate it.
Thank you ~
So sorry that this time for you, family, and your Uncle is a sad time.
Maybe a specialty tea.

And a special cup with two handles, if he would accept it.
My Uncle would not accept a wedge pillow and just set it aside, even though he and his wife needed to be elevated in bed in order to breathe better.
A package of seeds, flowers called "Forget Me Not", in a little planter pot.
Specialty foods wrapped in cellophane, in a basket that you wrap yourself, foods that he can still eat and likes.
More family photos in frames for the wall.
My Uncle loved a tiny room diffuser making it easier for him to breathe, but everyone else hated it and kept trying to remove it. Or, more expensive, a Hepa filter, a machine to clear the air. The fan noise can help block other noises, relax you, and help you sleep.
So many ideas, but the important thing is, that it will come from his favorite niece!
What about some treat that is decadent and a big splurge? Bring one for everyone as his gift of having a treat together on his special day. Time spent with him is truly the greatest gift you can give imo.
I am sorry that you are facing losing your uncle, may The Lord give you guidance and peace for this difficult time.
We have a place that sells chocolate eclairs that are beyond scrumptious but, they cost 15 bucks each, so they are reserved for a special splurge occasion.
I like both of your ideas and your'e right,it might take his mind (and my Aunt's) off his situation for awhile.
Next week,he's having a birthday( #88) and also were going to celebrate Father's Day( early ).
so I'll need to get 2 gifts for him.
The problem is,I just don't know what to get him.
I took a book over to show him when I was visiting, but he was too weak to turn a page or even hold the book.
He's on oxygen and in alot of pain....not eating much, etc.
So I'm stuck.
If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it.
Thank you so much~
Yeah, they pop up in the ‘similar questions’ section and people click on them, answer them and they come back to life even though some posts are several years old.
So..........Switzerland might be nice to move to. Low crime, nice climate. I remember when we did our Europe trip years ago I loved Switzerland. Maybe I'll check in with DH and see what he thinks. :)
They gotta have better doctors there me thinks. Assisted suicide is legal there. Yep, ................
In the winter it's too cold to go out walking. Then comes spring and it thaws and it's too wet and slippery. Then late spring and there are the forest fires and it's too smoky. After that it's bug season and you don't want to chewed up by June bugs or bitten by mosquitos and blackflies. Autumn brings a break and for me the nicest time to walk, but you have to watch out for the bears who are hungry. Of course when I was younger a lot of this didn't bother me so much.
Barb, saw the photos of your area! Bad! Stay safe. News reporter equated it to smoking many packs of cigarettes.
Seen & smelt my share of bushfire smoke. Please be careful with drinking water. Those with outside tank or roof collections will know this but even city dwellers with tap water may find impurities have gotten into the supply. After our 2020 summer of bushfires water was deemed too contaminated to drink (in the town we visited) but safe to shower, however, I contracted a very nasty UTI.
Thinking of you all 🙏
I can’t even imagine what it is like in Canada .
I've got sinus problems already so I'm gonna stay in till it clears.
Tens of millions of people in North America have been warned of dangerous air quality as intense wildfires rage across Canada
New York City and Ottawa recorded among the worst air quality on Wednesday, reaching "hazardous" levels
Public health officials have cautioned people not to exercise outside and to minimise exposure to the smoke as much as possible
Thousands of people have been evacuated across Canada and fires have already burned more than 3.3m hectares of land
Canadian officials say the country is shaping up for its worst wildfire season on record with climate change increasing the risk of hot and dry weather
Golden, are things clearing up in Alberta?
Sorry that it’s affecting your area, Barb.
The smoke from the fires in Canada has landed like a ton of bricks on the Red Apple. Oy.
Riverdale, if you're still here, stay inside!
