My dad is 80. He was admitted to the hospital about 2 years ago for ulcer. Since then, he has not been able to walk very far. Usually after 10 to 15 minutes, he would start complaining about extreme fatigue and lack of support in his neck and back.

Thank you all for your advice and support. I will make sure he exercises as much as he can. He is taking medication for high blood pressure. He has been checked by different doctors but no one seems to know what it is. They just said it's probably poor blood circulation.

Don't allow him to stop being active. In 2010 my mom fell. A lot. In Jan 2011, she was hospitalized for a week. She stopped walking a week later. No therapist, doctor, specialist, or treatment has helped. Her legs and core will not support her, and she refuses to exercise. After a year, it's cast in stone. My mom will never walk again. Keep your dad walking, moving, and as busy as he can be for as long as he can do it. Taking care of mom was difficult before, and now it's ... I don't know how I do it. I just do.

How long was your Dad in the Hospital? What sort of medication(s) is he currently taking. My Dad had an aneurysm a while back, and also had some vascular problems by-passed in his legs. He's been complaining of fatigue and pain in his legs and feet ever since. I agree with NancyH that this could be a heart problem and without a full medical workup, you will never find the problem. Not getting exercise only makes these problems worse. My suggestion for you is to take him walking in a Mall AFTER you get him medically cleared to allow it. Mall walking is very popular among seniors because the climate is controlled, seating to rest is never far away, and the Restrooms are usually close by as well. A lot of Malls unlock their doors early for "Senior Walkers". The stores are not open, but it could be a safe enjoyable way for your Dad to get the exercise he needs.

I don't know what the people on this website can tell you about your dad's health. He needs to get himself back to the doctor. The fatigue could be a heart problem, or whatever, but he needs to see a physician.
