$30 an hour is on the high side but then not all agencies are alike
it is difficult to find one offering 2hour minimum as most are 4 hours

family owned agencies tend to be cheaper but maybe don't have a large enough pool to tap if regular caregiver doesn't show up

expect a range of $25 an hour with a 4 hour min

Can hiring a bodyguard be more fun than hiring a caregiver?
"Inexpensive guards typically work for an "observe and report" agency, which contracts security guards who are not trained to act in high-risk situations, but report events to the police. An unarmed security guard typically costs $12-$20 per hour, while an armed security guard costs typically costs $18-$25 per hour."

Or, how about a chauffeur, or driver?

What is that word I am looking for?

STOIC

Friends on here can share things, they do not have to be Stoic, because they have us.

My father would have been 133 on his birthday, July 18th. Still remember, and if I don't, my brother sends out an email to remind sister and I.

It feels weird, not so sad because I wouldn't want to have lived that long. But a reminder, he has passed.

Thank you Polarbear, Send and Pam-
I took all your thoughts in consideration. And came to an agreement that I believe is fair. I truly appreciate all your input.
And Pam wow 2000 a month in groceries, all their food must be sprinkled with gold.
Thank you all again. Very much.
I can let this one go from my mind.🤗

Smeshque, my very tiny mom lives with us, and she really doesn't eat much,, but she is addicted to a certain doughnut brand, and sometimes wants something she just wants.. but she really does not eat much at all. However, she normally pays for almost all our groceries, she just wants to and feels like its her contribution to the household. We spend maybe $400 or so a month , use Costco and I shop meat sales. There are things at Costco she wants that we don't use, so she pays that bill too ( cheeses, soups, Etc) We do buy some (maybe 1/3), but she lives with us and pays only 2 bills, and hubs is her caregiver. On the other hand, my BIL and SIS live with my FIL, he pays ALL the bills but the groceries, they claim they spend $2000. a month, for 3 people one of whom is 96 YO. I don; know what the heck they are eating... So I guess my point is "whatever works"

Smeshque,
Good question.
AB's meals are mostly cooked and provided by you?
I suggest a generous monthly contribution for an individual living in your home.
Because of your lifestyle, (serving each person a separate choice), it would be impossible to save money on food. Most households cook the same for everyone, buy in bulk to save money. For example, mac n cheese nite, everyone eats same, not too much added expense. Your situation is a bit different.

One "formula" could simply be to divide the grocery bill by how many are living there. Even so, it should not cost you more out of your own pocket to feed AB.
It is almost impossible to serve each person a separate meal choice and save money.

In addition, you could take him to the market to buy extra and separate items just for him, at his own expense.

And if eating out, "food to go", he pays his portion then.

My concern for you is, to keep it simple, there is enough on your mind. Changing your cooking lifestyle now or really stretching the budget is too much to ask, imo.

You are not running a charity or a facility. You can save up any extra not spent on AB's food for a holiday treat or birthday party.

Over the period of a year, the weekly expense will be 4.33 weeks per month, not the monthly divided by just 4 weeks. I suggest to agree on a monthly amount, in advance.

$140 per week.

smeshque - we have a monthly household budget that lists out the various expenses, groceries being one of them. I keep all the receipts and record them and try hard to stay within budget. I buy things mostly on sale and in bulk, nothing fancy or expensive. If they are not on sale or expensive, I don't buy. We rarely eat out, even that too has its own line item.

Typically per month, we spend around $450 -$500 on groceries for 2 adults and 2 growing eating machine teenagers. Depending on where you live, meat and produce can vary greatly in price. Fortunately for me, I live very close to a Business Costco, meat there is even cheaper than regular Costco.

So, to answer your question, depending on how much you spend on groceries per week, AB should contribute 1/4 of it, give or take, since you have 4 people in your household.

This is on my mind and I didn't want to post a new question, so I brought my mind here. What do you all deem a fair contribution to groceries per week for one person?
So AB eats every meal with us. We only eat twice a day, breakfast and dinner. He likes some seperate things than us, and some special things we don't eat etc. He contributes to the groceries, on his own initiative. However DH and I were discussing what is really a fair amount of contribution. So since we cannot agree, I am asking what you all would see as a fair amount for someone to contribute to groceries, per week. Thank you
Sorry so long,

Report

The FBI identified the media attention on the shooter as a _primary_ motivating factor (particularly in young people) in mass shootings nearly 3 decades ago. Not a single law denying or delaying this coverage has been proposed in a legislature. Personally I also believe we need more mandatory reporters for mental illness issues and investigations of those reports. Most attackers (whether with firearms, vehicles or other weapons) have had multiple incidents with teachers, guidance counselors, law enforcement and neighbors prior to actual attacks; some like the movie theater shooter were under a doctor's care. We just need to be taking those multiple contacts more seriously.

The whole thing made me sick to my stomach.  Maybe the way to slow it down is to not mention the shooter's name, or  show his picture.  Also, a return to common sense, decency, and politeness along with leaders who demonstrate this.  I do not know if it can happen, or if we'll have to push for it as spirits later on.

I'm really sorry to read about this, Worried.

I walked through the very middle of Central London yesterday. It was absolutely packed with sightseers, and of course it crosses your mind these days to think how easy it would be for someone with terrorist intentions to make headlines.

Because of where I was - walking from Victoria Station to Piccadilly which takes you right past Buckingham Palace, and you can tell the Queen was home because the flag was flying - I know that every step I took was monitored in real time by dozens of cameras. If I'd put my bag down for too long or been wearing the wrong clothes for a July day or stood and stared in a way that didn't look right, I would have been attended by friendly armed policeman within seconds. I expect, although I don't know, that I would also have been sighted by snipers.

But you can't watch everywhere that intensely, and people who are determined to get famous in this insane way will pick the nearest soft target. It is *horrible* but I don't know how it can be stopped.

Watched the Gilroy press release and the suspect was shot & killed within about a minute after the shooting began. They believe he got in by cutting through a fence near the creek. 4 are dead including the suspect. I’m glad the shooting isn’t as bad as initially reported. You never think something like this will happen in your backyard! Especially at a family event. I said earlier we stopped going because it started attracting gang members.....it just makes me so angry that this happened because when the gang members started causing trouble at the festival, the organizers and law enforcement worked together to make the event safer, there were multiple police, probation and parole officers working the festival. The festival has ZERO tolerance, it’s a gun free zone and this still happened. I always say if someone really wants to shoot up the place, they will and this just proves it. It is really true that we aren’t safe anywhere these days. What a sad day.

Smeshque, I’ve never heard of pigeon races! Sounds interesting!

FF,
Thanks for asking.
There are small aftershocks daily. There was a few 4.7 recently.
It is getting harder to tell if it is an aftershock, or the new neighbor with his loud motorcycle, now with 5 friends with motorcycles hanging out.
Do not know how to tell if they are a dangerous motorcycle gang, or the reported
"friendly" types.

So sorry to hear about the shootings in Gilroy.

My heart is so heavy. There was a mass shooting at the Gilroy Garlic festival about 2 hours ago. They are calling it an active shooter situation. I don’t know anyone who still goes to it, it attracts a lot of gang members and that’s a deal break for our circle of friends. The gang members are why we went once and never again. No confirmed numbers but various newssources are reporting 13 injured and 7 dead. LEO friend NOT there said 60 injured and 4 dead but nothing has been officially confirmed yet. They called for 3 cal star helicopters to fly out 4 patients. My husbands department was called in to assist since we are so close to Gilroy, they sent 9 officers to the shooting A very dear friend who works for Gilroy PD is right there in the midst of it & my heart hurts thinking about him & all the first responders on scene saving lives and trying to catch the bad guy.

One suspect is said to be down, one is still on the run. But again not officially confirmed A few minutes ago there was a single gun shot heard at a nearby creek. Perhaps the other shooter taking the easy way out?

Theres video footage all over social media, taken by people at the scene. Local news just interrupted regular programming and said one suspect may be in custody. But their report is all over the place because nothing has been confirmed. They say there are a lot of patients at the local trauma centers. One hospital for 5 patients.

this is just awful. The garlic festival IS GILROY. It’s their pride and joy, it’s a huge fundraiser. It’s a family friendly event with lots of law enforcement present during the 3 day festival.

just saw a social media post from someone who was just feet away from the shooter and she said the police shot and killed the shooter, a young white male dressed in green Camo. Someone else said a boy is dead. I heard a 3 year old is one of the victims.
