In Spanish “A Vida” is “A Life.” Our goal is to define our clients’ needs, and allow them to choose where to live. Most individuals want to stay home as long as they can. This may become difficult, perhaps impossible without assistance from caregivers. Avida Home Care strives to address each of our client’s needs. We enhance their way of life in the comfort of your home.

Avida offers a solution with the services we offer such as Senior Companion Care, Personal Care, Alzheimer's & Dementia Care, and so much more. Our clients and their families have peace of mind in knowing that we offer these services and A VIDA is dignified.

Our service areas are Concord, Oakland, Fairfield, San Francisco East Bay including Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano Counties.

Avida's local founders, Raul and Adrienne Mendez, were inspired by their own personal family caregiving experience to this business as a natural choice to support the whole family. Avida allows you, the responsible adult, to have a rich, loving, and memorable visit with your senior when you visit, as there are no tasks or medical appointments to complete.

We employ reliable, compassionate caregivers who are specially trained in home care and embrace Avida’s core values. Our caregivers are “bonded” and have undergone background screening to meet state and federal requirements.

Our caregivers have met California state standards for home care training and are required to maintain these qualifications with continuing education. We assess their performance and check in with our clients on a regular basis to ensure we are meeting their needs.

Avida took care of our 101year old father for a couple of months before we had to let them go. Our father is very low maintenance and easy to care for. The initial feeling was that they have good customer service and are open to input but failed miserably in contacting us when there was a major problem. As for the caregivers here is where the real problems began. They were just completely complacent. Here are just some of the infractions. 1. He was given medication at the incorrect time and it could have caused his demise. We were lied too about this but later found evidence of their unforgivable mistake. 2. Kitchen was filthy. 3. Bed linens were not changed. 4. Clothes were not washed. 5. Caregivers contacted us directly AFTER they were let go, this should NEVER happen. Apparently they were trying to cover their tracks. Where was the management to stop this? 6. It appears money was missing from a drawer after the caregivers found out they were let go. No direct evidence but they were the only ones who had access to our fathers house. 7. They had completely easy to follow menu suggestions and full access to grocery delivery every week. Basically all they fed him were hot dogs and other junk. Bottom line, we believe that Raul's heart is in the right place but does not vent his caregivers properly and communicates with them poorly. As far as we know there were never any visits by him or anyone at Avida to see what was going on. I believe they too would have been appalled at it.

Avida Home Care has made it so much easier for me to take care of my aunt. The caregivers on staff were always on time, efficient, knowledgable and caring. Raul (the owner) is always available to answer questions and help problem solve. They were able to adopt all our normal routines into the day to help my aunt feel comfortable right from the start. I am so grateful for this support system.

I am a past client
My boyfriend's father who is 80 years old was having hospice care at our home since he had stage 4 cancer. My boyfriend and I both work full time and our families lived in another state. There was no time for the both of us to watch his father 24/7 as we had to work and hospice care did not cover a caregiver. I found Avida Home Care while searching online and loved the background of Raul, who is the owner, as his background was in law enforcement and he is a veteran. I knew my boyfriend's father, who is also a veteran, would be able to connect with Raul. Raul and his staff showed compassion in the care they gave to my boyfriend's father. I appreciated the team's empathy and concerns for his well-being. They made sure that during the hospice visits at our home, they were included so everyone could be on the same page. It was nerve-wrecking at first to have someone we did not know come to our house and take care of him when we were not there. But Raul and the team made us feel that we could trust them as if they were part of the family.
