Prior to opening FirstLight HomeCare in Oviedo, Karen Tucker spent nearly 20 years in various sales and management positions within the healthcare industry, most recently in a supervisory position with Cigna Dental. Although Karen found success in her career, she had a deep-rooted feeling that she could and should be doing more to help others in the community on a more personal level.

Karen’s first-hand experiences caring for her own aging family members led her to the home health care industry. In college, Karen was a caregiver for her grandfather, who she knew wanted to remain in his own home for as long as possible. Later, Karen’s sister became the primary caregiver for their mother who was battling cancer. Recognizing the incredible amount of stress and responsibility placed on family caregivers, Karen’s idea to open an in-home care business was sparked. It was a goal of hers to provide senior care to aging seniors to fulfill their desire to remain independent in their own homes. After much research, FirstLight HomeCare was the obvious choice because of its dedication to client satisfaction, focus on “Culture of Care” throughout the system and an unparalleled screening process for Orlando caregivers. Karen has built an incomparable team of compassionate caregivers in Orlando to provide exceptional senior home care services while maintaining the happiness and wellness of the senior and disabled population of Central Florida.

What is Non-Medical Care? Non-medical home care fulfills a specialized niche between people needing medically skilled services and people who need non-medical companionship and help around the house.

At FirstLight HomeCare, we provide non-medical in-home care that covers everything from household duties like cooking, cleaning, and laundry to individual needs such as bathing and hygiene, continence and toileting care, mobility assistance, and assistance with eating. We can help out with errands, organize bills, take care of paperwork, or just sit down and enjoy some pleasant conversation. Basically, our home care agencies provide whatever is needed to help people maintain their independence and quality of life.
