Senior Helpers of the Triangle

In-Home Care Overview: Senior Helpers of the Triangle

Our Services -Companion Care
For our basic level of care, caregivers provide services such as companionship, meal planning and preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, medication reminders, and other general assistance. For sitter services, caregivers sit with and monitor a client during their hospital or facility stay. The caregiver can then follow the client home to provide a smooth transition.

Personal Care- For our advanced level of care, our professional and experienced caregivers provide basic companion care plus assistance with the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and ambulation assistance. These services are initially assessed and regularly monitored by either an on-site care coordinator, Social Worker or RN depending on the regulations of the state that the office is located in.

Live-In Care-Our caregivers are available to provide 24-hour coverage, as long as they can sleep for eight hours per night and receive appropriate breaks. Live-in care can be provided for a minimum of two consecutive days, up to seven days per week indefinitely.

Peace of Mind Visit-Our unique Peace of Mind Visit program is a short visit each day to help clients with, among other things, bathing assistance, meal preparation, medication reminders, getting out of or in to bed, and “check-ins.”

Transition Assistance- We know it can be challenging for families when a member is discharged from a hospital. This service ensures that clients are guided through the outpatient surgery and recovery period. We are available for help prior to surgery and will accompany a client each step of the way through full recovery, including transportation to follow-up doctor visits.

Sitter Assistance- Our caregivers monitor clients in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living centers, continuing care retirement communities, etc., to be there when the family cannot, etc.

Respite Care- Respite care is a unique program to assist families by providing care for a short period of time, such as vacations.

Our Process- We have a professional, process-oriented staff ready to serve our clients and their families.
When a prospective client contacts a Senior Helpers office, they set up a complimentary initial assessment at the client’s location to discuss the client’s needs and formulate a care plan. If necessary, a staff member, Social Worker or RN (depending on the State regulations) will conduct a full nursing assessment to gauge the client’s status and clarify the care plan.

They determine the most appropriate caregiver for the client using the assessment information and the caregiver matching process. Service starts on the pre-determined date. Follow-up is conducted immediately after service begins and on a periodic basis to ensure excellent care delivery.

Senior Helpers took very good care of me - went the extra mile to ensure I had reliable transport to and from surgery and appropriate after care. This company has exceeded my expectations to accommodate me in this very difficult time. I recommend Senior Helpers to others who may have needs getting through basic everyday tasks.

Most caregivers were untrained and unqualified. Owner is more interested in making money than ensuring he is providing safe quality care. Please ask a lot of questions before signing on with them (ie: skill and training level, sitter vs. hands-on caregiver cost difference, if they require their employees to be vaccinated, etc). Many other care groups in the Raleigh area operate with much higher ethical and clinical standards.
Response From Senior Helpers of the Triangle
It is always disappointing when a client's family member is unsatisfied, regardless of the reason. In the early stages of COVID, we and other Home Care agencies did not have access to widespread reliable testing, where as some assisted living facilities did. I think this was probably good policy as some of those facilities had a water challenge simply because of the larger populations. What we did, and I believe most other quality agencies did, to protect their clients was to implement recommended polices and procedures to assure to the best of our abilities that our clients were not exposed to COVID from us. None of our clients contracted COVID while in our care, so I can only assume that we were gratefully successful in our approach. All of our caregivers are trained to serve the clients they work with to the level of care that client requires. We provide as much or more training to our caregivers than any agency I am aware of in the triangle area. We are, though, always striving to improve that training. And, if there is dissatisfaction with a caregiver for whatever reason, we replace them with one who better fits that client's needs. We don't differentiate what we charge per hour for different levels of care. As the level of care needed can change over time, this has seemed to work best for our clients. We make this clear and all rates are clearly stated in our agreements. As to me, as the owner, caring more about making money; that is patently false. This is my last career. One where I can serve others and give back for what I feel I have received in my life. Given my past career, if I chose this for the sole purpose of making money, I chose poorly. The care and safety of our clients and my employees are my top priority.

The staff including the owner of Senior Helpers made a prompt visit and began care immediately when we really needed their services. They provide a level of professionalism and compassion we haven't found with any other agency. We are especially excited about the Senior Gems model in caring for our parents. The caregivers have been fantastic and very attentive. They are exactly what we have been searching for!

Overall, I have been very satisfied with the attention and care my mother has been given from Senior Helpers. At times, there has been some issues with miscommunication and some caregivers that were not the right fit, but these issues have been worked out.

Oscar, I am a current client
Ladies from church gave me Senior Helpers of Durham's card when I was truly out on a limb with my situation in care-giving for my wife. Senior Helpers came in and immediately put my mind at ease with 5 simple words- ‘Oscar, I can help you.’ Not only were they able to give me respite, they were able to connect me to resources to plan for this journey. I highly recommend them.

Senior Helpers of Durham was extremely responsive and ready to meet all of our needs. We are at the beginning stages of this, but thus far, I am extremely pleased.
