The Village at Manor Park, located in Midland, Texas, is a Continuing Care Retirement Community offering six levels of care on a 65-acre campus. Manor Park offers many amenities, including a pharmacy, three beauty shops, a large chapel, a convenience store and a Wellness Center. As health needs change, residents have preferred access to other levels of care. Helen Greathouse Manor offers assistance in activities of daily living in one-bedroom apartments. The Vogel Center offers assisted living with memory care for residents who are in the early stages of memory loss. The John F. Younger Center for Alzheimer’s Care offers specialized care for residents who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Other levels of care on campus are Mabee Health Care Center for long-term nursing care and the Skilled Rehab Care Center for short-term rehabilitation therapy.
Instead of a large institutional nursing home, Manor Park is currently creating smaller Households where residents who need long-term nursing care can live in a comfortable home environment. Each household will accommodate about twenty residents with private bedrooms and private bathrooms. Residents will be encouraged to make decisions that impact their day-to-day experiences such as when they rise or what they want to eat for breakfast. Privacy and property boundaries are respected by everyone. For example, family and guests must ring a doorbell and be greeted before entering the home. The Households become a community where residents become friends and lives are shared. The Care Team includes a licensed nurse and the staff is cross-trained to be Versatile Workers who share the duties of running a Household and caring for the residents. The rule for making decisions in a Household is to ask, “How would we do this at home?”
