my aunt is 88 and had recently been in a rehab center for almost 2 months due to a hip fracture. my cousin was there the night before she was discharged to home and he said she was very lucid and had a great conversation with her. the nursing home people told him she could walk about 70 steps with assistance. when she came home that friday and he saw her, she couldn't walk at all and needed much assistance to rise. she mumbles and speaks very softly. he is wondering why the abrupt change in her. she does have alzheimmer's but could there be this abrupt change? she does live with the oldest son and his girlfriend and I hate to say what I;m thinking is going on.
She also could have been "showtiming" at the rehab center -- putting forth great effort to act in a manner that would get her released, and then becoming worn out from that effort when she gets home.
Those are possibilities. What do you suspect is going on? Do you have any evidence for your suspicions?
