My husband is Alzheimer patient for over 10 years. He repeats himself and this is not unusual. What I am concern is he talks about only one thing. He had an utmost desire to retire and settle close to his nephew. For some reason it did not materialized. It seems he is hooked up on it constantly mumbles of this. Is it with some purpose? How to redirect him?
I've found that just agreeing, or as mentioned by someone else, just saying "uh huh", etc. usually works for a while. Unfortunately sometimes Dad gets EXTREMELY obsessed and just won't let go, almost to the point of driving the rest of us crazy! Sometimes you just have to ignore it, or try to ignore it, and hope that something comes along and pulls him in another direction.
Has something happened lately, or has a discussion come up, concerning this nephew? I've found that often my Dad will start obsessing with something because of something he hears or sees, and how he interprets it.
