My mom was admitted to a skilled nursing facility. Have been paying out of pocket for her room. She is broke so I applied for Medicare to take over. I sent all the paper work they asked for but did not approve the whole time frame of her being there. Now I get this 14 thousand dollar bill from the facility. They are saying that just keep paying what we have been paying until the 14 thousand is paid up then Medicare will pick up the tab. To me they should have paid it all. What I am thinking is that this is a scam to get money for the facility. Mom is not far from not being around any more so by the time the bill is paid up mom will be gone so Medicare will not have to flip the bill. Has anyone experienced this. She has been broke for a year now but I think because I accidently transfered money from my account to hers they think I should flip the bill. I have no money because of a litigation case against my husbands btrother. Is there anything I can do? I thought Medicare should be paying some of the bill anyway but they are not. They take all but 65.00 from moms social security and I am paying the 300.00 for private room which now I can not even pay that but I do not have the heart to put her on the other side. She went over there for two days and it was horrible. I couldn't even sit in her room to visit because it was so crowded and there is not enough staff to take care of everyone. If anyone can please direct me as to what I can do?
