Still intense pain even with antibiotic/cortisone/catheter. My father has a bad back, so initially thought his back was worse. In the emergency room after an xray and exam, they determined his prostate and bladder were enlarged (probable infection). Sent him home with antibiotic and Percocet. Only knocked down the pain a notch and clouded his mind. GP a few days later halved the Percocet after a catscan showed much enlargement and sent him to a urologist. Diagnosis - prostate infection/probable bladder infection - took a quart of urine out of his blocked bladder and put in a catheter. Said it is not likely the bladder will revert and will probably need to remain on the catheter. Extended antibiotic from 10 to 14 days. Appointment set up two weeks out. In the meantime, my stoic father is still not getting pain relief and also began hallucinating. After complaining Tramadol replaced Percocet. No more hallucinations, but very sleepy and still in much pain. Ten days later, a slow, but mobile 90 year old is now unable to walk by himself and my mother is pureeing his food because the pain has weakened him to where he can't chew. Shouldn't the antibiotics and cortisone have kicked in by now to reduce the pain? What questions should we be asking his doctors. We are all very worried... Thanks!
