My mom has a boyfriend who in 3 years of them being together he has not worked he has beat on her, she has had a stroke and now cancer again. He has her tell her family to leave and has had her sign papers saying her truck and house go to him when she passes. She went from normal healthy loving mom to not even able to walk and he has had her take out 10 loans and will not let her family come around not even for holidays. I don't have the money for an attorney, but I don't know if I should call adult protective services

I fully plan on call APS and my moms mind has been different since her stroke, that is when he started taking over. 2 weeks before the stroke she didnt even trust him to use her truck while she was in the hospital overnight. So i think they need to do a mental evaluation. I think she may have dementia possibly due to the daily vodka use for 20 plus years. I am gonna call the police each time he wont answer the phone when i call. I am so fed up with him tearing what family we have left apart. I dont know how he sleeps at night, he is a psycho or heartless, maybe both!!! Is there any way to know if she has made a will? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.... thank you all!

Dear soconfusedinok,

I'm so sorry hear what is happening with your mom. I know you love her a lot and want her to be safe. I would try to access community resources perhaps social services, the police or a domestic abuse hotline can help you. The emotional, physical and financial abuse is heartbreaking and must be stopped. Please do what you can for her, even if your mom is too scared to act in her own best interests. Please try to stay in contact with her as much as you can. Thinking of you.

If she is mentally competent, she can do whatever she wants with her assets. She can take out loans thinking she will die and not have to pay them back. BUT when she dies the lenders will all sue the estate and foreclose the house and repossess the vehicle. So there will be nothing left. Oklahoma is a state that recognizes common law marriage, so he may have spousal rights.

If mom is still in her right mind and can be rescued from this man, she can change her POA and will at any time. The problem is that most in domestic violence situations will not turn on their abuser and actually go back to them.

It sounds as though you should call APS anonymously if you can, and perhaps the local police?
