I understand looking for an alternative to a bedpan. They have to be one of the most uncomfortable things to try to position yourself on and if you can manage that a pad is still necessary.
When my mom broke her hip, chucks were used instead of a bed pan for a day or two post surgery. The nurses said it was pretty standard to do that, less disruption to the repair and ultimately cleaner for the surgical site.
An incontinence product like a Pull-Up type brief like Depends or a Tab Type would be better. It would absorb more and contain fecal matter. A bedside commode might be an option as well. If it is difficult to get the person out of bed the use of a Sit-to-Stand, if they have upper body strength or a Hoyer Lift if they don't can make a transfer from bed to commode or bed to wheelchair much safer, easier.
Just in case.. a gait belt to help keep hold of person around waist. I need to learn how to transfer DH…. I think I better start doing arm and core strengthening workouts.
Yes they can. But I would tell you to use. The larger overnight better brands disposable bed pads. My wife is quadriplegic. And used to need a caregiver to do a typical quadriplegic bowel program. We always did it on a bed pad. She is unable to maintain a bowel program or use a catheter anymore. So We need to use the adult briefs. But She is always on a pad as well. Either in Her wheelchair or bed.
