She has no health insurance/no real income. She is in need of medical attention due to years of drinking. She lives in Maryland but is staying with me in Florida while she tries to recover. She has not touched a drink in almost 3 months but needs to have fluid drained from her body. What are her options?

If she can take care of an elderly man for free, is there some reason she's not able to get a job, even part time?

She can get medical care from Hill Burton hospitals; the Hill Burton Act provided that hospitals accepting funds under it be obligated to provide free medical care, to indigents I believe. Google Hill Burton hospitals for your area to see if there are any.

She can get treatment through an ER. When she gets the bill she can call the hospital and request financial aid forms. She'll fill them out and send them back and the hospital will most likely will forgive the bill. This would be a solution if her medical issues are urgent otherwise the above solutions are good ideas.

I don't know how the affordable care act works in Florida, but that is what you need to look into. It may be she'll get insurance under the auspices of Medicaid. She should definitely be eligible for something. Let us hope that she can recover sufficiently so she can hold a paying job and have insurance that way, but for now, take advantage of what is available for her.
