My mom is moderate/advanced in dementia and has a pessary. She can still walk, so I'm able to get her to the doctor for her appointments to get the pessary cleaned or replaced. However, it is getting more difficult to get her to her appointments due to her mobility slowly getting worse and less steady on her feet. Are there doctors who can come to a memory care and clean/replace a pessary? My concern is her uterine/bladder prolapse needs the pessary. It is uncomfortable for her to go without one. I've already tried for her to go without it for a month or so, and she was uncomfortable, and the caregivers said her organs were hanging down. I'm not sure what I'm going to do when she can no longer go to the doctor to get it taken care of. Any advice is welcome and appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!

I have limited knowledge but I do know there are different kinds of devices and some are easier to remove than others, maybe ask the nurses and gynecologist about trying something easier to remove🤔.

I just read about this. Its similar to a Diaphragm. I don't see why an RN cannot take it out, clean it and re-insert.

I wish that was the case. Not many people are trained on how to insert and take out a pessary unfortunately. There are only a couple of gynecologists at my mom's medical facilities that know how to do it, and only one of them can do it properly for my mom so it doesn't cause pain. There aren't any RN's that know how to do it, and we're in a heavily populated area.

Thank you! Yes, she has hospice care. I will ask them if they provide someone who can clean/replace it.

Has she been evaluated for hospice? Perhaps that service could be provided through hospice?
