I am the caregiver but the family is now pushing for assisted living. They seem to think that my mom would not need memory care. But I know she would not be manageable in an assisted situation. I also know that her remaining in her home of 50 years is what is best for her. Is there an assessment done to determine what level of care is appropriate?

A Geriatric Assessment Clinic or Memory Clinic might be able to assist. We're on the waiting list to have my MIL evaluated. They do a lot of cognitive testing and other evaluations plus talking with the family regarding their observations. The social worker tells me they can assist in determining the appropriate place for the elder to be living. Try in internet search for Geriatric Assessment Clinic or Memory Clinic, there might be one near you.
