Wife and I will celebrate 80th birthdays this year. She is on that long road of memory loss. Planning for the future. Our finances are as follows.

I have a military pension, SS and a modest annuity(401k). She just has SS.

If and when it comes to her having to go into a facility do all of my finances factor into paying for her care, whatever that may be? Our total incomes, excluding the annuity, covers all of our current expenses, with not very much left over to pay for full facility care, what ever that might be.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Tom; the thing you absolutely MUST do is see a NAELA certified Elder care attorney as soon as possible.

Nursing homes cost 10K per month where I live. Your wife will likely need Medicaid to be able to get NH care and in order for you not to become impoverished, you need to make sure that by the time you apply for Medicaid on her behalf, all of your financial ducks are in a row.

Much depends upon your individual state, as Medicaid is a joint federal/state program.
