My dad needs a reclining wheelchair that is more comfortable than the very cheap standard one he has now. He needs one that he can roll with his arms, his current one has too short of wheels for him. The chair completely is wrong for him and his body and arm type. This is the second chair the nursing home PT dept has ordered for him and I don't know why they keep doing this. (they are not very good or very proactive, they prefer their patients be immoblie and less trouble) I have a suspicion they have tighten his wheels to make them harder for him to move. He used to be able to at least roll down the hall.
I feel that dad needs to go to a location that has wheelchairs in stock, sit in various chairs, try them out, and get the RIGHT ONE. Right now he is in a very bad situation with this and his mobility.
He needs a reclining chair. At this point I am ready to PAY for it myself just to give him a little bit of comfort and mobility.
MY QUESTION IS- How do I find a place that will pick up my dad, take him to check out various wheelchair choices and get one that is useful for him. Surely he has a say and a choice. I cannot find anything online. I am in Mid Missouri. Can anyone help me. I searched the net and can only find "order online " companies. HELP.
He is a VA nursing home? You should be able to get one from the legion, Does he have medicare? You can take him to a doctor that is not through the VA.
Good Luck
He doesn't have a doctor. The nurses are ..... blind? They expect these people to be old and to be going downhill. They don't care about the wheelchair. They'd like my dad to be laying in bed all day sleeping.
Their PT dept ordered both previous ones and they were completely inappropriate and contrary to his needs. -- (( it really is them... I am not delusion.. although sometimes I do feel like I am.. and sometimes I want to give up and just let them do what they want (if I did dad would be a bedridden drugged zombie in the alz unit)) - It is VA but they use Medicare Physical Therapy department that is .... so so
I really do want to just give up and run off. At least dad never complains and he likes all the nurses and they are good to him.
There are senior transportation vans in most cities that you can call. I am not sure if they will take him to more than one place in a day but it's worth a call.
Good luck,
Cara
