My father is currently in Assisted Living and was managing fine. Several weeks ago he had severe back pain and now we discovered he has a back fracture. Since he has very limited mobility and issues with dressing and walking we are now considering getting a care-taker(s) to move in with him. Of course, this means the out of pocket cost with skyrocket.
He has nursing home insurance, but we prefer not to go that route. He is full mind and awareness.
Other than hiring care-takers, I am searching for a Board and Care facility but cannot find anything in his zip code. I have contacted AgingCare and A Place for Mom and all they offer is nursing and assisted living options. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you contacted your local social services office? Your profile doesn’t show your location so it’s impossible to know the exact name, in some states it’s the department of social services, in others it’s “health and human services”. Anyway it’s the office where you go to apply for Medicaid and all other government assistance (food stamps, cash assistance, etc). They should have a list of all the board & care homes in your county. You might also try your local area/alliance on aging office.

Honestly, check Yelp.com for recommendations. It isn't just for restaurants, and I managed to find an excellent hospice company for my dad that way.

Check your state's licensing web site.

Get a list of what providers the insurance will cover. Look at three of their web pages and try to tour one when you can.
