So do you all use the same soil for fruits & veggies? Do you fertilize each plant of yours differently?

I'm caring for mom but I'm also trying my hand at a deck garden. But I'm just too tired to buy different kind of soil for my roses, vincas, zucchini, pepper, tomatoes, shisito pepper. So I just have regular Miracle Gro soil for all of them and some organic Mr Earth fertlizer. The roses, peppers, tomatoesare doing well but the zucchinis are tiny and will probably destroy themselves or the squirrel will get them

I don't know how to post this under Gardening as therapy

Don't worry, gardening is supposed to be fun not another thing on your to do list, if you are happy with your results that's all that matters!

There is a gardening thread on reddit you might find helpful and inspiring

And if you used miracle grow I'm sure your soil is fine, you really only need to worry if it seems fit for making bricks 🤣

Thank you for the encouragement...it's frustrating because Im not patient. I feel gardening and caregiving are not for me but I got sucked into cg. Im glad gardening is optional:-))). The peppers are taking so long to turn red & yellow and now we have a heat wave this week. From what I got from Google and YT videos, Im not supposed to fertilize and just the let the plants be.
Also, inlaws live with me and occasionally they will comment "XYZ have a lovely garden with so many vegetables they gave it away" etc while Im struggling to get 3 peppers...

I appreciate your time in replying ...I will head check out the reddit forum

Soil can get pretty expensive if you have a lot of containers to fill so I usually go with anything that is on sale (but not that $1 a bag stuff).
No matter what you are growing they key to container gardening is to keep the soil light, you shouldn't ever be able to form it into solid clods when it is wet, it should still crumble easily. Provide a good amount of organic matter (peat, coconut coir, some manure or ?) and make sure to give plenty of water (containers can dry out fast especially with big plants, one of those moisture meters probes can be helpful) and fertilize often (I tend to forget so I like extended release spikes or granules). There's no need to completely replace the soil every year but I like to mix in some new triple mix and/or manure and use the extras in my ever expanding gardens 😏😄

Thank you so much. I've not been fertilizing frequently, just 1 spoonful of Miracle Gro in one gallon of water on the first of every month. I think my soil is dense too because I can make it into solid clods when wet..uggghhhh..
I will try harder next year..maybe....
