My fiances grandparents really need help. They took in her son and girlfriend and the girlfriend is bipolar. She is so abusive to the both grandparents. Grandmas son has told his girlfriend to move and she wont both grandparents have also. She's so mean to them both. The grandma has fallen many times had black eyes. Been to the hospital I can't even count any more. She is in a nursing home now and not sure but I think she doesn't want to come home due to this women. She has finally started talking about her wanting this women out of her house. Grandpa is still here and she is trying to get him out of his home that he has lived in for over 40 years now. He is scared and doesn't know where to turn. I have been around and around with her so has my fiance. She looks for ways to scare you like making up lies to try and get you in to trouble. But after they hear what was going on they realize it was a lie. But what can we do to about this situation
I'm not sure what is going on between this woman and the son, are they still a couple? Why did he ever think this was a good idea, is she off her meds and was she a different person when she is properly treated?
I think it would be worth it to pool your resources and put together first and last month's rent and find a place for this woman. Then do what Jude said, change the locks and hand her the keys to her new home.
And do not under any circumstances allow her to cross the threshold again... a restraining order could be necessary to keep her away from you grandparents.
As to whether or not eviction is required, it may depend on whether or not she's changed her mailing address to the grandparents' residence. Doing so and filing a change of address with the Michigan Secretary of State is how it's handled here. Once that address change is made, the person is considered to be residing at the new address, and must be evicted.
There may be a statutory requirement for "permanent" address changes, and it probably varies by state.
Poor girlfriend. Bipolar disorder is a very difficult burden to manage. She must have some wonderful qualities as well, for boyfriend to be in love with her. She needs medical help and I hope her boyfriend can encourage that. But meanwhile she has no business terrorizing the grandparents.
If grandfather wants her out of his house, help him make that happen.
