I woke up this morning at 1:20am to find my 90-yr-old Mom standing in my bedroom (which is down the hall from hers) thankfully using her walker. She told me she was ready to go back to bed now but did not know where it was. Mom has lived in her house for 45 years!

I asked her where she had been and she replied, "Just checking things out." I noticed that interior doors that I had closed before going to bed had been opened. Thank goodness she did not activate the burglar alarm by opening an exterior door!

As I walked her back to her bedroom, she commented on pictures hanging on the walls in the hall saying "these would look great in my house!" When I told her she WAS in her house, she replied that she was not.

I am wanting to purchase an alarm mat that, when weight is placed on it, transmits an alarm signal to a pager that will be placed in my room.

None seem to get consistently good reviews and most seem expensive, although I really don't know what I should actually expect to pay to get a reliable one.

Has anyone purchased such a mat with pager that really worked and was reliable? If so, would you please share the brand and model? If I am ever going to sleep again, this mat is a necessity!

Thanks!

I can’t use a floormat because my mother gets up constantly because she thinks she has to go to the bathroom. So I got the Smart Caregiver motion sensor and pager. Model TL-5102 MP. The sensor is in the hallway and the pager is in my room. I just put it in the hall after she goes to bed so she doesn’t know it exists. If she goes out in the hallway it wakes me up. I paid around $25 but that was a year ago. It’s about 3” x 3” can be carried from room to room and hidden under furniture if you need to know if she’s going into certain areas during the day.

I am going to purchase the cordless Smart Caregiver bed pad alarm system for $189.95 plus tax. Seems they have gone up in price quite a bit (but what hasn't in the pandemic?) Thanks, everyone for the feedback. I'm hoping this will take care of the issue! I will post my results after using this product for awhile.

There's a company called National Call Systems that have equipment for issues like this.

I also ordered the Smart Caregiver Mat on Amazon. It has worked really well for us. It is right at the bedside and if my mom steps down, it makes a loud chime in her room, and the monitor which I keep on my bedside makes a doorbell sound. It gives me peace of mind because if I don’t hear the Ring alarm that she’s moving or about to get up, the smart pad will alarm as soon as she puts any weight in it. It also deters her because she hates for it to go off. So she will wait. You can carry the remote alarm around the house because it’s about the size of a wallet.

I went on Amazon and looked around.
I finally got a bed alarm ( pad)
once weight is placed on it, it alarms if the weight is removed.
if you do not place it near the edge, it can go off before the patient gets out of bed.
if you are sure that your mother will step onto a pad ( i placed a bed oad over it), it should alarm when she moves off the pad.
I also got cameras so I could check during the night.
the alarm wakes me and I sleep deeply.

Thanks, FloridaDD. I was looking at that one but lots of reviews said the alarm alert was not loud enough and that the system (parts) itself did not last long at all. I will check it out again.

The model I have has 3 volume settings.  I take the buzzer to my bed with me.  I have one for over  a year (I had to get a second one after attempted escapes from the other side of the bed)

I use the Caregiver Alert Monitor, Cordless Smart Caregiver.   I can take the beepers to my room at night.  I think about 120, but worth every penny
