Elderly father with stubborn groin area rash. Dermatologist called it intertrigo because is worse in skin folds. Been prescribed many different antifungal creams & powders, barrier cream & ointments, even prescription strength hydrocortisone cream. Switched to loose fitting jocky shorts and cotton pajama bottoms. Yesterday the dermatologist scraped the rash for a culture to see if would grow anything. Then said the product "InterDry" is worth a try. Sheets you cut to size and place in skin folds. Only available on line so I ordered it and will arrive in 1 or 2 days. Has anyone used this product? Especially in an elderly man's private area?

Glad u found out what caused it. Would continue with tge loose fitting underware and cotton PJs. I may also consider, after showing using a hairdryer to make sure the area is dry. Really not tge same thing but my friend suffered from yeast infections. Dr. Told her to use a hairdryer after her bath.

I had an aide tell me that Almay stick deodorant was good for skin folds. Kept the area dry. If I used this, it would only be to prevent the rash not cure it.

Update: The culture revealed E. Coli. Dermatologist prescribed doxycycline by mouth and topical gentamicin ointment both for 7 days. The rash is now completely gone. Having a culture done was KEY. To prevent a recurrence we were told to apply miconazole topical powder daily, pay attention to hygiene, and wash the area daily (my mother tends to that). I now help him with showering once a week with my mother's blessing finally. I don't know if the InterDry I bought will be useful in the future or not. For help with hygiene I tried a bidet attachment/raised toilet seat combo without much success. There are design flaws the marketing videos fail to mention. Thank you to those who responded to my post/question. Helps to feel less alone.

I've tried a similar product under a different brand name last summer. It's helpful, but I couldn't get it to stay in place all time. Sometimes it would crumple in the fold. Summary: It can't really hurt and it just may help.

The best product I've ever used for care clients with fungal issues in skin fold areas is a medicated powder called Phytoplex and the brand name is Remedy. This product works like a miracle. It has to be reapplied a few times a day though until the skin issue is cleared up.
I've heard mixed reviews about products that you cut to size and use in skin folds. That they do not stay in place and often curl up and are a big headache. It's worth a try, but I'd ask the doctor about the Phytoplex powder though. Your father may need a low-dose oral steroid if his condition isn't helped with anything topical.

I don't have experience with InterDry but if that doesn't work, maybe ask for a prescription steroid cream. That's what my dermatologist had to resort to for my very stubborn rash with intense itching.
