I would like to donate a hospital bed to anyone who would like to pick it up. My dad passed away in the hospital, not in his bed at the assisted living place he was at.
Most if not all places will not accept a mattress. Most people get hospital beds through insurance or Hospice If you put an ad with FB MarketPlace you might get some people that would take it. I would just put it by the curb on garbage day and a metal scrapper will take it and recycle it.
The scrap metal market has tanked because China and other countries that formerly accepted the scrap no longer does. Our church used to have a scrap metal ministry that earned money to pay of building bonds for our church. We had to close it so we weren't stuck with junk we couldn't get rid of.
I would do a Curb Alert on Craigslist because more people will see it. Make sure you include a picture.

Because of the nature of your item, I'm not sure an organization can accept it (for hygiene reasons regarding the mattress).
