I've searched in every way I can think of but can't find any official info. I'm just looking for the amount for Indiana so I can figure out how long a penalty would be for gifting $35,500 roughly.

Indiana penalty divisor is $6,873 per month.
Remember it usually is the date the LTC Medicaid application is filed a what sets lookback date from. Technically it’s called “diverstment penalty period”. A lot of states will move it to the first of the month of the application filed month. But others do not. This is why you will often read allow for 5 years and 30/31 days. You do not want to get caught out due to a few days…… that would be beyond bad & sad.

Btw the first website ainorlando posted is beyond excellent for insight!

Really best of luck juggling this long Holiday season for you and your family. Let us know what happens. We all do learn from each other.

Thank you so much for the info and the continued support and encouragement. I truly appreciate it. I'll continue to post and update as things unfold. As for now, I did officially appeal her being discharged yesterday, so she's still in the hospital and they said it can take up to 72 hours to reach a decision, so at the very least we bought ourselves little more time to finish up her new room and bathroom downstairs.

Contact a Medicaid office in your state. Or contact an elder attorney who specializes in Medicaid. $35,000 is a large gift to have been given.

Thank you. I was hoping to find the amount online, just to get a rough estimate of what the penalty would be. I already have a consultation set up with a lawyer but they can't talk to me until Dec. 7th.
