Mom uses a rollator and can sit and stand as long as the chair has arms, but she can't scooch her chair up to the table. I'd like her to be more independent. Any ideas?

We had a class meeting at a classmates house. One of my friends came in with her rollator, sat down on the seat it had and rolled up to the table. I made the statement she brought her own chair. Now she was 5ft 10in so was not lower than the table.

Pushing her in, been there, if they can't help its like pushing dead weight. And, my Mom only weighted 135 lbs. Easier to pull than to push.

In both cases a physical therapy consult (speak to your MD about this) can best assess what is best to use, what may help you overall given the patient, age, condition, diagnosis, muscle tone, and etc. Give your doctor a call and ask for physical therapy consult.

Does the chair she sits in have wheels or casters on it, so she can easily use her foot/feet to push herself up to the table? If not you may want to invest in one. They actually make one specifically designed for seniors(by ComforTek) with mobility issues that you can find on line too.

My husband had the same problem, but our dining chairs all have casters on them so he could push himself with his one good foot up to the table and then when done push himself back so he could stand up. Our chairs also all have arms on them and that it easier for him to stand as well.

And if your chairs do have the casters on them, and she still can't push herself in, since she lives with you, you may just have to push her in yourself.
