Please help me, today the hospital in Texas is saying they are going to release my brother-in-law to a shelter, because he "doesn't need" rehab. They want to put him on a bus and send him to us in Colorado. He can't talk, but has regained a lot of his movement.
My husband told the case manager that that would be an "unsafe" discharge as you suggested in a previous post. They said they would release him to a shelter. How can they release someone who can not speak for themselves to a shelter???
Please help! Can someone give me the words to say?
Strongly suggest their discharge planner/social worker should get clearance from their legal dept to do that.
Thank you!
He did not take care of anything for himself. Clearly you told him he is a Canadian Citizen. They can send him by bus wherever they want. Short of going to their Newspapers and making them famous for what they are doing, there is nothing you can do.
Do not take on the care of this man. He is not a citizen and has never taken care of himself. Were you not there to receive these threats by phone, what would they do with this gentleman? Apparently it is their assessment that he doesn't need further care.
A shelter will take it over from here and the resources therein. So, yes, they should release him to a shelter, and the Social system (such as it is) will take over from there. This is not your responsibility unless you MAKE it your responsibility. And if you do I can but wish you good luck.
