I agree with gladimhere below. It is unlikely that a felon will be appointed unless this is not an especially consequential crime and is long ago and an exemplary life has been lived ongoing. WHOEVER is appointed guardian by the court will be accountable to that court to provide accounts of assets incoming and outgoing on behalf of this senior. So essentially you will need to go to an Elder Law Attorney.
Now I will warn you that being guardian is not an easy job.
I will also tell you that you, if you win, will YOURSELF be accountable to the court, and to keep meticulous records of all care and spending.
You need also to know that when siblings to to war they often BOTH lose in court. The court will often decide to appoint the State as guardian of the senior. In all truth this can be a relief, but you do need to understand that you will then have ZERO to say about anything from finances to placement. Everything will be out of your hands. And even where the person is placed is not within your control.

You challenge the appointment. The court will not appoint a felon.
