How do you make phone scams and spam stop?

you can google the number to see if its on any sites. If it is, you can try to get it removed from the site{s). I recently did this for my landline.

I have my cell set at Do Not Disturb. I can allow only my contacts to come thru. The scammers go to VM. But like said, they usually hang up as soon as VM is activated.

If you can convince her not to pick up the phone until the answering machine picks it up first, 99.9% of scammers will have hung up by then.

As far as stopping them completely, good luck with that. The National Do Not Call List is only for companies that subscrbe to it, but of course, scammers aren't legitimate companies and would never subscribe.

I use NoMoRobo which does a great job, but calls still get through. It only works on VOIP lines (and it's free), but last I heard they were putting together a cell version you have to pay for. In order to get the best service, too, you have to text them the numbers that get through as well to add to their list of scam numbers.

What carrier does she have?

My dad’s landline is Comcast Xfinity and Nomorobo is offered free by them. When we activated it a few years ago, it cut down on the robo calls dramatically. There might be even better options now.

I just answered this on another thread. If your MIL uses a cellphone exclusively, she can get the Doro model from Consumer Cellular. You can program the phone to accept calls only from people on her contact list, and there is no additional cost for the blocking.

If she's on a landline, I can't help you there. I haven't had a landline in years.
