Hi again! If I have someone come stay with mom from 7p to 7a, what is a fair rate to ask (Michigan). Mom sleeps during night, gets up to potty on own. I don't care if caregiver sleeps, I just need someone in home. No personal care. Mom can get her own PJ's on. I would not want to go through agency as they charge 30$/hour and then the caregiver gets 1/2 that. There is a nursing student program, and nurses aide program that allows for job postings.
Also, would there be a need to 1099 someone for something like this? Mom is not a business (but I guess kind of is). Would a flat rate perhaps be best? I would only be 10 - 15 min away if something was needed and only 2 nights a week

There is a lot on the IRS site about what forms to give caretakers and what you must report, and basically anything over 100.00 bucks is reportable. This is also crucial in case mom's funds ever run out and you need to apply to Medicaid for her (and given she could live another 10 years they MAY run out, especially since you are going with hired care now). There will be a lookback of 5 years in her accounts and finances to be sure she didn't "gift money" and you will need a paper trail. So that's for taxation question.
On to what it costs. Pretty much today, whatever the traffic will bear. It is pretty expensive. My friend, who died a year and one half ago paid 20.00 and hour basically to have someone there which is what hospice required when she went home to die. Costs from an agency will bump it up to 35.00. So your best way of knowing is calling those who do this care and asking "what do you charge." Things are changing rapidly. There are a lot of jobs out there. I hope YOU will let US know what you have to pay. Our information comes from caregivers on this Forum and you are one.
