Portland, whatever is acceptable between you and the caregiver. If the caregiver is experience she/he would give you a ballpark figure.

I had caregivers from an Agency, which was licensed, bonded, insured, and who had workman comp for their employees, plus the Agency handles the payroll deductions... I was paying $30/hour to the Agency, as to what percentage their employees received, I don't know.

Oh, make sure you go to your homeowner's insurance carrier to obtain a "workman comp" insurance policy to cover for any injury the caregiver might received, since the caregiver is an independent contractor.
