We have attempted a draw last week and it did not work with only getting 1/4 in of blood from wrist in the vial and i said stop... No second attempts ever made. . I just need one test for Tumor Necrosis factor. To determine off label use of one shot of perispinal enbrel to treat Aphasia and dementia.

swallowing takes long but sometimes coconut water or sweet drinks are quicker and work better to swallow. I am using high water content foods.

I always give steamed zucchini for breakfast. Prior on alternate days, filling a cup with diced cucumbers, melons, cucumber and celery as a liquid base so there is lots of liquid. There are approx 5 - 7 wet pull ups daily. another 2 at night into the morning.

85 yrs.4 ft 6in weight 75 lbs dementia symptoms, can bear weight but not balance anymore. Very good appetite, mouth stays open most times, non verbal, tries to speak a little, understands things somewhat as we can see slight nodding to affirm comprehension and sometimes reaches for her drink or spoon when put in front of her even though arms are mostly bent. I understand end of life, have the book "Being Mortal" but we placing some principles of the Bredesen protocol and see improvements with her strength and more able to stand and hold her weight so toileting and sitting up are possible. I need to get one test... Dad will lose his mind if she passes. She laughs at the three stooges, we take her out everywhere even the beach. Today she smiled at a toddler.

I should carry on with the protocol. Your mother is enjoying an enriched quality of life, with a varied diet, evidently not dehydrated if she's using 7-9 pull-ups in a 24-hour period, and a range of stimulating activities to which she responds.

I admit I only know what I've just looked up about the off-label Enbrel theory, but mucking about with her immune system sounds like a terrible idea to me. But if you're dead-set on getting this test done, I should look to the skill of the blood-drawer: phlebotomists can get blood out of the proverbial stone, if you can track one down. Paediatricians are pretty good, too - it's all that practice on teensy invisible veins.

She swallows fine and we just have to wait 3-5 min for each spoonful of food to be consumed before feeding another. Just can not spoon food quickly and need to go slow until she chews it down into a puree. She eats daily ; a 10 oz veggie celery based juice upon waking alternate days; a cup of papaya chunks with her brunch either before or after, drinks 8 oz of coconut water around 4pm and a thick heavy dense 10-12 oz of stew which half way through we add a tea into the dinner and blend that into a tastey drinking consistency. . That is almost 40 oz of fluid, At 75 lbs,,,, and 5-6 wet pull ups daily, why cant they get a blood draw? Isn't that enough hydration? Half the body weight in oz?

Dr said try everything including cucumbers . She chews great. Just does not chug back liquids. She keeps the thickit in her mouth and does not swallow smooth thick drinks. She swallows anything that has bits and chunks that require chewing. She even eats pickles and does not choke on them for some reason. Yet smoothies stay in her mouth unless i show her a piece of real food on spoon.

You have no profile. How is this person related to you? Why is a blood test needed? Is this person on Hospice? Because what you are describing, this person may do well on Hospice.

The problem with swallowing happens with Dementia. Because of this, the person can aspirate the liquid and then get pneumonia. My opinion, if not on Hospice this person needs to see a doctor for a swallow test.

This is my mom. She is on hospice but i am thinking of getting off. I just want to get one blood draw. TO rule out if the off lable enbrel can work to bring blood flow to the brain.

My first thought here is to thicken their liquids with the product Thick It. Sounds like they might have a swallowing issue which is why it's taking longer to swallow. Once they are able to comfortably drink more, the hydration will improve along with the ability to draw blood. The last thing you want is for their liquids and food going into their lungs, instead of their stomach, as that can cause aspiration pneumonia, and kill them. Best Wishes.
