I am always very sensitive to posts about pets. Seems like generally, it doesn’t work out when parents move into their children’s home and bring pets who often are also elderly.

Are you planning to ”get rid” of the dog? When a dog pees somewhere, if that spot isn’t cleaned and deodorized, the dog will return to it over and over again. Pet stores sell stuff you can use. There is also medication the dog can take if it is truly “peeing all over everything”.

You will probably have to make up a story to tell Mom about the dog. Stick to the story and tell other family members what the story is.

What change are you proposing? Whatever it is, depending on how far along the AZ is, probably need to keep the talk simple and matter-of-fact. Sometimes you have to tell a theraputic lie or two to satisfy the questions since they might not be able to process and comprehend the entire situation.

Can you take the dog to the vet to see if this behavior is physical like a UTI, bladder infection or is it something else like the dog missing your dad or is picking up on the changes in mom? There is a reason the dog is acting this way. Your job is to figure out why. Animals don't do anything without a reason.

As far as mom goes...well, you can't reason with a person who has Alz their brain is broken. Their reasoning part of the brain is not working correctly.

Just my 2 cents!
