My husband is a 100% DAV, so I also have CHAMPVA. I get my meds free from Meds by Mail at CHAMPVA vs getting them from the VA and paying a charge. I have heard that in order to continue to receive meds free, I have to sign up with the Part D? I have no other insurance, and retired from work at 62, collecting SS. I do not make a lot of money on SS, barely enough to pay my bills. What is Medicare going to charge me? What is the other going to cost? I can get my meds from the VA and just pay their charge if needed. I just don't want to sign up for anything I do not need. Where can I find answers to these questions?
I used one for my dad and it helped me pick the best plans for him and his future needs.
All combined his premiums are lower then the deductibles through Medicare advantage plans. So he knows what his monthly costs will be and that he can go to any doctor. No networks necessary.
I tried to sort it out myself and I was so confused, I would have never been able to do what the broker accomplished.
My aunt said she would never let her CHAMPVA lapse, it is the best thing that her husband left her.
"having heard" doesn't mean the information is realistic.
If you haven't raised this issue with the VA, contact your VA social worker. I've found them to be very helpful. But get information directly from the VA. They're the best source for this kind of issue.
