Wendy, as we get older, talking a shower is like going to the gym... it can be very exhausting. And I have noticed with myself, if it is past 8pm, it's too late to take a shower as I tend to get lightheaded with all the movement that is involved in the shower. Earlier in the day it is easier. So I can understand why your client hesitates.

If your client has memory problems she probably forgot that she needed to take a shower. Any possibly of her showering in the morning?

Another issue with showers, for some elders they start to get claustrophobic more so if there are glass doors on the shower stall. One would need to keep one door opened a bit. I know I plan to remove my shower doors and go back to a shower curtain.... it would be much easier to clean the tub that way :)

Have you tried using baby wipes on your client inbetween showers? If the client doesn't need to shower daily [I remember way back when Saturday night was bath night] the wipes do work.

Wendy, are you working for an agency, or are you hired by this lady's family?

You are right not to try to force the lady to shower, but get help and advice on how to persuade her. It may be that this is not a one-woman job!
