I’m trying try help my grandma to find out how we can afford a nursing home for my grandpa, he’s basically an infant and is hard to take care of. The nursing home she tried with insurance wants $160 copay a day after the 21 days and she can’t afford that. He can’t get Medicaid because both of their incomes combined are too much. When one of my parents needed Medicaid we found that combined income wasn’t an issue. The nursing home received all of my mom’s SS, it was her only form of income in retirement, and Medicaid paid the rest. My father’s SS and pension were untouched.

Dominick, as preparation for seeing a good attorney (BB is right), if you look at the blue menu bar above you'll see "Care Guides", and in that menu there is one about care planning. Get that emailed to yourself, print it off, go through it with your grandmother, and then she'll be starting out with a clearer picture of where she wants to get to. Best of luck, please update.

Grandma needs to see an eldercare attorney. Applying for Medicaid when there is a spouse at home is not a do it yourself process.
