Joseph, I think the best way to find out what benefits are available (and there may be ones you hadn't thought of) is to contact the VA directly.
In our area in Michigan, the VA did have transportation available for trips to the VA; that might be the way to start with getting registered. But you could also call a local VA office, whether at the county, state, or VA hospital and center level, to find out if you can get transportation.
You'll complete some forms (you'll need your DD-214), and perhaps other forms. (It's been so long since I've been through this process that I don't remember what else was needed.)
Your quals will be evaluated and you'll be notified what benefits are available to you.

You need to call your local VA office. Maybe an rep can come and talk to you. If you served during Viet Nam you maybe able to get Aid and Attendence. You didn't have to see action just had to serve during Viet Nam War years.
