I thought the rule of thumb was that if you need more than 8 hours of assistance, it is time to go into the next level of care depending on your ability to perform ADL's (activities of daily living).

Clarify your question so you can get decent responses. AL only provides SO much care to elders, nowhere near 24/7 care!

this is true indeed. home care is 1:1. depends on needs.

I assume throughout the country, but certainly in my area, assisted living is much less cost than 24 hour in home care. Also, for 24 hour assist- who is providing that? If live in help, they need some time off and sick days. There will need to be backup coverage . If agency, will there be continuity of the caregivers? These are factors to take into account.
