The best way for an incontinent individual to preserve their dignity is to wear an incontinence brief to prevent accidents from happening in the first place. Pretending incontinence is not an issue is likely to create many more problems than it cures, including unnecessary embarrassment. Right?

I really cannot think of a thing. As far as preserving dignity, the best way to maintain dignity for an elder is honest talk about what is happening and what must be done to prevent it. Incontinence is an equal opportunity visitor to the elderly. There is no shame to it, but it's an affront to all our earliest training as a babe being toilet trained.

So time for a good sitdown talk about what's happening, what's working, what's not, and what to try next.

Wishing you the best.

Just read your profile. I see that you were a nurse, geriantologist and wellness coach.

What did you use in the hospital for protection on bedding? You could use the same protection at home.

I understand that you want to preserve dignity, but you still have to protect your furnishings.

My mother became incontinent too. It’s challenging.

Best wishes to you.
