My husband is a 71 year old man who had prostrate cancer in 2011 he was listed as stage 4 since it got into his lymphodes. The prostrate and 3 lymphocytes were removed. He now and for awhile has had bladder problems. In June of 2022 he got a very bad bladder infection and was misdiagnosed, therefore he was hospitalized. Now he self catherizes every day and cannot seem to stop peeling himself or the bed. I am at my wits end and cannot seem to get any help. He also had a bad brain injury when he was in his 30's and it is like he has lost it. Please HELP!
UTIs will give you the feeling of urgency. If he is on nothing to prevent them you may want to try Cranberry tablets and maybe a probiotic with it. Also a member who is an RN recommends
D-Mannose. Water will help flush bacteria out. One thing that causes UTIs is catheterization. Also, he needs to void completely.
When my late husband who had vascular dementia became very incontinent and tried many different medications(that didn't help)and had Botox put in his bladder, which also didn't help, his urologist suggested my husband have the supra pubic catheter put in.
It was a Godsend for me, because prior to that my husband was getting up every hour on the hour to pee, and because he was a fall risk, I had to get up with him. So needless to say, neither of us got any sleep and I too was at my "wits end."
I'm sorry for what you're going through. But there are answers out there, so call his urologist today.
