My mother pays a caregiver service to take care of her 24 hours a day, but due to accidents and abuse we installed cameras in her house. Now they are telling us we can't have one in her bedroom, where she spends most of her time, because she is changed there. I am the only one monitoring it and it's not even pointing at the comode!
Our state allows someone to be recorded without their permission. I know a woman who recorded her ex husband over the phone without his knowledge.
I won’t go into the details but the judge allowed the recordings to be played in the courtroom. She won her case.
As I said in my earlier post. It’s legal here to have cameras in homes and facilities. Our last governor approved allowing cameras. Many daycare facilities have cameras as well.
While video surveillance is generally allowed on public or private property in Colorado, you cannot install cameras in locations where people anticipate privacy. This is true whether the surveillance camera is installed in your house, private place, or business place.
So in Colo, cameras in bedrooms is illegal.
Check the law in your state as the agency caregivers MAY be correct.
Our state allows cameras in facilities. The residents must only have the cameras facing them. They cannot film roommates.
I can’t imagine why your mom’s caregivers would disapprove of cameras in the bedroom since that’s where your mom spends her time. What would be the point of not having cameras in the bedroom?
Did you explain to them why you have cameras? What do they think is wrong? The caregivers privacy isn’t being violated. Plus, you are the only person seeing the recording.
Have you checked with other agencies on their policies? I would switch agencies in a heartbeat if I were your mom.
