There are several residents at moms MCF that are sick with a bug and when I went to visit mom last night they had posted a note on the door stating as much and to "Steer Clear (4 days) to avoid the germs...", They also state if you do go in, to wash hands and use masks before entering. I appreciate the heads up, and the mask. However, I (many family members) of residents go visit our Loved Ones (LO) everyday so haven't we already been exposed to the bug? Should I really stay away? I was just wondering if anyone knows if this is standard protocol at a Memory Care Facility. Thanks in advance.

This has happened 3 times at my Mom's AL, two times for flu and one time for a gastrointesinal virus. I appreciate the care they are taking to make sure things don't spread or get worse, even though it is hard not to be able to visit.

I usually stayed clear of my mom’s NH when there was a caution sign. last year, I ignored the caution sign, figuring I was only going in for five minutes. Within a couple days, I had the worst flu I’ve been hit with in years.

A few years ago my moms SNF had a lock down on visitors when the Gastrointestinal virus going around. Staff doesn’t want other germs coming in. In fact they have a sign posted that if you have a cough, fever, flu/cold symptoms to reschedule visit. The Residents well being comes first.
