Is there an adult briefs disposal container?

Hi there!

Would someone suggest an effective brand of disposal units for used adult briefs? I’ve heard of the Diaper Genie but wondered if anyone tried it or something better. I need to find one that can control the horrific odor from the used briefs.

Some great ideas here that I can pass along to YB who is dealing with this with mother. She refuses to let her bathroom trash (yes, wet depends and pads both!) go out except for SATURDAYS. So, Sun & Mon aren't too bad, but by Wed...holy smokes!

I did run the adult diaper genie by her some years ago and she was SO offended. You really have to tread lightly with this kind of thing.

All she does is reset the auto-air fresheners in her apt to go off every 10 minutes, instead of 30.

I will run the idea of putting the activated charcoal in the garbage and having him insist that her bathroom garbage can have a fairly tight fitting lid.

Call me cheap; but I used bread bags. I found that bread bags are usually airtight and keep the odor contained. I just asked family and friends to save their bread bags and give them to me. They were happy to oblige, and it was a way of recycling. I usually placed the bread bag, which I had tied securely, in a plastic grocery bag and threw it in the outside garbage container. Because I kept my husband upstairs, a friend helped me rig up an outside container with a pulley system so that I could open the bathroom window, pull the string, the lid to the container opened and I tossed the bags in. This saved me many trips down and up the stairs daily. If anyone would like a diagram of the system we devised, let me know, and I will send it to you.

I use a disposal product called Akord made by Janibell and available from Amazon. It is made for adult disposables, comes in different sizes (I have the slim version) to fit your space, and does a great job of containing odors even when changing a filled bucket. It has a scented liner that is eco-friendly. You can put the wet/soiled diaper directly into the bucket and when the bucket is filled, you remove the liner and put it into the trashcan. The system for changing the refill liners is easy and not messy at all. I suppose the only downside is that you must use the Akord liners with this item. But I find that the liner refills are cost effective when purchased on Amazon and cleverly designed to contain odor. This system has been well worth the investment for us.

I got my mom one of those med/small closed trash cans you can either lift the lid or step on the lever to lift the lid but it goes back down on it's own. It has an insert that comes in and out and holds a small trash bad about the size of a plastic grocery bag. I get her small lemon scented garbage bags at Walmart (they are pretty cheap and come as a roll), the scent isn't too strong or soapy smelling but helps when you open the can and because it's small the bag/can only holds a day or two worth of her Depends. She ties the bags up pretty much every day just to hide them and puts it in the big garbage pail outside. The bag has 4 tabs on the top that tie together and close the bag up well, this has worked pretty well for us between the bags being rotated often and the closed can.

With my wife I put used Depends into a plastic veggie bag and dumped in some baking soda then closed it with a twist tie. Lots of baking soda. Also dumped baking soda into the garbage can. Cheap effective stuff (and it doesn’t have any damn sickening perfume in it). I filled up several spice containers with the soda, kept them around the house in convenient unobtrusive locations then shook out the soda as needed where needed. No Stink!

Whenever I bought veggies I got a separate bag and twist for each veggie and various family members guv me their MT bags so there was always plenty. One to four Depends per bag depending. Not only that I made a convenient empty bag holder and an equally convenient deployed bag holder. Made em out of “stuff” I had on hand. :-)

I have a digestive disorder and sometimes I have to use depends. When I am done using them or baby wipes, I chuck them into a couple plastic shopping bags. I grab them towards the middle (at the end of where the diaper is) and tie the top part in a knot, then put them into an another bag and then do the same thing, like I mentioned before. Ziplock bags from the dollar store also help (I would look at the storage 2.5 gallon ones or smaller if you can use them for what you have). Throw in, then zip it shut. These two methods prevent a lot of trips to the outdoor garbage can. I also use scented garbage bags in every trash can of the house. Hope this helps.

(I have also heard that peanut butter scented candles and sprays can help with the nasty smell, I personally have not tried this but maybe it's worth a shot)

Hello! I purchased the, 'iTouchless Deodorizer 13-Gallon Round Sensor Trash Can', for my mother's Assisted Living apartment. It has a large capacity and the no touch opening and closing was wonderful! It controlled odors and was an all around great purchase. Available from Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy and Overstock. I also used scented baby diaper disposal bags from the Dollar Store (100 to a box) to wrap individual diapers before disposal or wrapped the diapers in newspaper. Additionally, I placed a trash can stick on deodorizer inside the lid of the can and a layer of baking soda in the bottom.

I would suggest incorporating Chlorophyll in the diet of incontinent loved ones, it drastically reduces body odor and the odor of their waste. It is a good nutritional supplement also.

Try activated carbon. Deordorizers and their like only mask the odor with another more powerful odor. I find that fragrant odor just as offensive. Activated carbon will actually bind the odorous molecules out of the air. I use to put a little shot glass of activated carbon in grandma's commode. It really cut down on the odor. If a poop bag breaks in the big garbage bin, I pour a cup of activated carbon in there and it takes care of that odor.

I used the Diaper Genie for my Mom. You just have to stay on top of the emptying of it because those adult briefs take up alot of room. I have a weak stomach and this seemed to contain the smell pretty well. If not, Febreeze works wonders!

You know, you get used to it. At first, I would hold my breath and have a huge 20" fan in the window at full speed. Now, either it just doesn't smell as much or I've gotten used to it. It's only objectionable the moment the diaper comes off. Grandma is fecal incontinent so every diaper change is a poop diaper change. After that brief burst, I can't say I smell much of anything any more.

I use garbage bags. Which is pretty much all a Diaper Genie is. It wraps it up in plastic. I used to use one bag per diaper but now I fit a whole days worth into one bag. Save the planet. Just twist it shut between fillings. Then with the last diaper in, twist and then tie it shut and take it out to the garbage bin. It's worth it to get better quality bags. You don't want a bag breaking in the bin, it smells incredibly bad. I get Costco bags which are pretty tough. Make sure you squeeze out the air before you twist it shut every time. In between diaper fillings, it'll keep down the smell when you open it back up. When it's full, it keeps it from popping when you through it in the bin and other stuff is piled on top.

Yes, I agree. Cheap garbage bags aren’t worth buying. The better ones hold so much more without messy leaks.

I threw them away immediately in a separate bag and placed outside. I had to because I became sick to my stomach. I completely lost my appetite and have never been a big eater. My doctor got upset with me for being too thin but who can eat after those smells? Really, the appetite disappears!

Maybe this will be something to look forward to after my husband's prostrate surgery and being on a catheter after. I haven't been too thin since I was 23.
