Hi... My father is 78 years old. End stage COPD. He lives alone and honestly I feel he needs 24/7 care. Caveat: There is no one willing to move in with him or have him live with them because he is abusive. If I feel it is dangerous for him to live alone can I put him in a home even if he doesn't want to go ? State of Florida.

Find Care & Housing
My significant other is taking care of his 90 yr. old father who has dementia and OCD. He also has OCD. I've been living with them for 6 months now and his father is annoying as heck. No privacy at all. I feel like I'm on the back burner between his friends and his dad. I want to travel and do things and not have his dad with us all the time. What should I do? I get very depressed and lonely. I feel like I want to leave because this can go on indefinately.

You are right to not want to take him in if he is abusive. Let him be, if he is of sound mind, you are not going to be able to get guardianship, so let him make his own decisions and live on his self made exile. If he does surrender to needing help make the home his only option.
That is what I would do, perhaps I am not as forgiving as others, but I read a bumper sticker that read "mean people suck". Do not feel guilty, but do allow him his decisions.

Does his DOCTOR say he needs 24/7 care? Has his doctor discussed with him what he needs? Please let someone else be the bad guy! What do we know, we're kinds!

No.

You could petition the court for guardianship and if you are given it, then you could legally decide where he lives. (You can search this site for a lot of information about guardianship.)

You could report to Adult Protective Services that you feel he is a danger to himself and tell them why. They would investigate.
