I've been able to get her to go to church with me a few times. My brother & sister don't give a rip about her. She doesn't call them and they don't call her. The only time she goes anywhere is when I take her to the stores and church. I really thinks she's trying to kill herself. Can you help me? Suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Can you afford a home health aide? Someone who could stop in for a few hours two or three times per week to take your Mom shopping or to a hair appointment. Might give her something to look forward to when you are not there.

Mom is 78, no antideprssants. She won't go to doctors, she was a nurse and a dietician and was a beautiful caregiver to soo many! It's 7:30pm and she still hasn't woke up. She doesn't try to make friends with our neighbors, some of which are stay at home Mom's. She is incredibly lonely, and I think she thinks she would be a burden to my brother and sister and that's the reason she doesn't call them. I don't call them becuase I don't want to talk to them, they don't care about their own mother. I got her out of this slump before with massive amounts of natural vitamins and herbs. I think it's time for me to restart that regament.

loridtabbykat, could you tell us a bit more about your mother? How old is she and is she on antidepressants or other medications? 2/3 bottle of wine will probably not hurt most people, though it may fill them with regrets the morning after. I understand your concern, though, if she is on medications and is older.

Many people drink alone to keep themselves company. I wonder if your mother is lonely. It is sad there is no other family or friends to help keep her company or to call on the phone. Depression does tend to drive other people away. I hope someone will have some good ideas for you. This is a difficult situation for you.
