We were able to find a place where her long term care insurance will cover where she will be moving to. The LTC requires that there has to be a nurse on call 24/7 and where she is now, they don't. My thing is, once her LTC insurance won't cover the new place anymore, if she could move to assisted living. It's usually cheaper there also. She is going to be 89 in January. She can live for another 10 years, who knows? Her mom died when she was 92. No one wants their parent to die early. I don't. But we might end up at a stand-still if we don't think about it now. I know that I am, but not sure about my brother. He had a big load put on him and is doing a great job. To keep things smooth, I won't mention anything until the time frame gets closer. Am I doing the right thing the way that I'm thinking?
once the insurance runs out, then you would be using whatever her financial resources for her continued care...after that, you would apply for Medicaid.
be sure the MC you pick will accept Medicaid patients. Some of them do require a certain period of self pay first...look to be sure her resources and insurance will cover that amount of time.
