My mom had cancer in the nursing home and she fell. In about an hour and a half later she died. They never called for an ambulance or nothing when she fell. They called my brother, told him he she fell but she was okay. An hour and a half later they called me and said she passed away. We're waiting for the autopsy and I'm debating if I'm going to sue or not cuz I don't think they were really taking care of her cuz she always look dehydrated and everything.
My deepest sympathies and condolences. I am very sorry for your loss. I know this is an extremely difficult time. It is a horrible shock to lose a parent.
I know its hard. I hope the autopsy will help answer some questions. Grief makes us all very raw. I hope you find the answers that you need.
When it comes to elder falls, even if the nursing home called 911 immediately and Mom was taken to ER, chances are she probably would have passed in the hospital either that day or a couple days later. Such falls can cause all types of serious complications that are not possible to fix.
My Mom [97] fell at home, turned out she had a head trauma that caused a brain bleed. We called 911 and Mom was in the hospital for a couple of days. She survived the fall but only for 3 months until she passed. In those 3 months she didn't know where she was or who we were, she lived in long-term-care. Mom's very mild dementia kicked into late stage dementia right after that fall.
If your Mom looked dehydrated, chances are her organs were starting to slowly shut down. Usually what happens is that patients will start to refuse food and water. Mainly because the food/water were very uncomfortable sitting in the stomach and in the kidneys that have begun to slow the digesting process.
By chance was your Mom on Hospice care? If yes, normally 911 isn't involved, neither is hospital care.
I’m so sorry your mom has passed. I know it’s hard regardless of how or why, she is gone. That is very hard. I won’t try to speculate on how or why your mom passed because it is impossible for me to know. But consider she had cancer. She was sick enough to be in a nursing home. Regardless of that, her passing is still a shock. I hope the tests will bring you peace and acceptance.
