Find Care & Housing
Brunoluke - if there is no money to pay the personal care home then your mother will need to be moved to a nursing home that takes Medicaid. That is assuming that your mother would be approved for Medicaid. If you anticipate the money to run out soon it would be wise to start the application process now - a begin looking around for a facility. Also - your mothers doctor will need to be involved as a nursing home that accepts Medicaid will require a doctors referral. Your other option is to have mom move in with a family member and they become her caregiver.

My mom is in a nursing home after a stroke. Thought she would only be short term. However she is set to go long term after January. We live in Pennsylvania and applied for Medicaid. Medicaid does have a 5year look back period. She has been approved. Medicaid doesnt help with assisted living in PA. Alot of paperwork involved in applying but worth it. Apply anyway. Cant hurt. Not sure if personal care and nursing home are the same thing.

Medicaid pays after your assets are gone, as long as you did not give them away. Medicaid does a 5 year look back, so find the financial records.
