It depends on what kind of help you need. There is Aid and Attendance that a surviving spouse of Vet, who was in the service during wartime, that can be applied for. The Vet didn't need to be in the fighting. You will need to show that your care is more than your income. You also need discharge papers. I don't think your are entitled to any medical help or can use a VA hospital. I have two friends who fought in Nam and they use the VA hospital as secondary insurance but their wives can't. They had to purchase their own.

Your County should have a VA office. Get DHs paperwork together and see what ur entitled to.

There have been many changes to what they would call "service connected disability" there has been "approval" for those that served in what they are calling Blue Water conditions or areas.
Please contact your local Veterans Assistance Commission. They will need the DD214 and any other paperwork you might have and if you have letters he wrote to you they might also be helpful.
there are so many conditions now that the VA covers under service related.
I think you would get more help through the Veterans Assistance Commission than through the VA and the services are free. There are lawyers that would be able to get the same info but you pay for them to do so. There are companies that do this as well, again you pay for the research they do to provide you with the information.
This is what happens when you read the profile AFTER responding.....
OK...I am not going to delete all that I wrote but....
I misread your question or misinterpreted it I thought you were asking for help FOR him not for yourself.
I think you might be out of luck. But it is worth a try. I think once the Service person has died unless you have been in the system as a spouse of a military veteran you do not qualify for services.

He did not have to serve IN Viet Nam. It could have been anywhere as long as it was during the years listed on their site.

Vietnam War era (February 28, 1961, to May 7, 1975, for Veterans who served in the Republic of Vietnam during that period. August 5, 1964, to May 7, 1975, for Veterans who served outside the Republic of Vietnam.)

My understanding of VA benefits is that if your husband served even one day during a conflict, he is eligible for benefits.

Have you contacted your local VFW post for help?

Here is a link that may help:
