My Mom is 99 and has mild dementia. She also has a rectal prolapse. Has anyone had any improvement? She had uterine cancer when she was 94 and it started then. She did PT and kegals and it was resolved. Last year, mom was in "in home hospice" after failing to thrive. She became very weak. Her prolapse came back. She got better and I placed her in a memory care 6 months ago as I was super burned out after 6 years of full time caregiving. I have been going every day to help with Pt and re-insert as the staff will not do that (against medical protocol). Nothing is making a difference. I Brough mom home as it seemed ridiculous to go there 3 times a day when I can have her home with some help. Has anyone had a parent this age with a prolapse and seen improvement? I am unable to leave for more than a day without fear of her being hospitalized. I feel horrible for her as she has been through so much and it feels lie this is cruel and so embarrassing for her and me. She often cries and says she wants to die, especially after accidents

Find Care & Housing
SNF ( skilled nursing facility ) is another option . They could handle the issue that most likely will not get better.

Then you can visit her when you want , and Mom may be happy to not have you so burdened . Sounds like you are both stressed with her being home .

I doubt at 99 that it will go back to normal. Poor lady. I agree, bring Hospice back on board.

I don't know anything about rectal prolapse, but it sounds like you need to bring hospice back on board and let your mom die in peace and comfort.
I mean she is 99 years old.....how much longer do you want her to live like this?
And why put her through this unnecessary pain and you both the embarrassment and stress of the re-inserting, when she could now just live out her days in comfort and peace.
Doesn't she deserve that much at her age?
